Bio
Named after Andrey Kurkov’s satire of post-Soviet Ukraine, ‘Death and the Penguin’ was formed in early 2013 by four friends in the directionless and turbulent haze of post-graduate limbo.
Debut single, 'Strange Times', is an impressive statement of intent. Relentless in pace with all the volume and energy of hardcore bands such as Pulled Apart By Horses, it drives forward with profound lyricism and off-kilter rhythms contrasted by hooks big enough to rival any pop band.
The video was shot and directed by Oxford film-maker Sam King (Gunning for Tamar, Spring Offensive) in a listed building deep in South London under the shadow of a towering clock face.
