Bio
Following their debut release, 2012’s punchy, vinyl-only Green Apples EP, the band’s line-up has settled on;
Tom Pinnock- vocals, guitar
Matthew Barnes- drums, vocals
Jonathon Lines- guitar
Christian Sancto- bass guitar
'Zoo Zero' finds the band exploring their more experimental influences – including Sonic Youth, Mission Of Burma and This Heat – while journeying further into the nocturnal psychedelic pop of Julian Cope, Robyn Hitchcock, MGMT, XTC and Deerhunter.
“I guess we’re interested in music where noise and weirdness clashes with melody,” says Tom. “It’s way too easy to make some avant-garde, instrumental record – it’s harder to combine the unexpected with actual songs.”
In their quest to weave together the strange and the sublime, ‘Fraktion’, the album’s seven-minute opener, mixes echoing Amon Düül guitars and Dead C feedback to tell a shadowy story of Ma rxist terrorism, while the taut ‘Show Me Your Flag’ examines a meltdown in the desert over chiming guitars and tribal drums. Elsewhere, ‘Double Cross’ explores spookier climes, with Arabian-scale guitars feeling their way through a pagan twilight filled with unhinged howling.
ZOO ZERO are fiercely independent, turning down distribution deals and management interest in order to keep full control over their music, and are releasing their debut on their own label, Crest Cont.. In times when major-label careerists are dubbed ‘alternative’, the group’s album is perhaps a reminder of the tag’s true definition.

News
ZOO ZERO released their self-titled debut album on September 30th through Crest Cont. Records.
Recorded at west London’s Sofa Sound Studios with engineer Scott Knapper (Scott Walker, Van Der Graaf Generator), the eight-track album expands on the quartet’s avant-rock sound, extending some tracks to epic lengths and developing a more complex, textured sound daubed with feedback and drones – all created purely with guitars, drums and vocals.
