Now don't get us wrong, we understand that there are clear, definitive and significant differences between all the above mentioned genres. We're not throwing a net over them, as a singular genre, nay, we're astutely recognizing how the bands, promoters and venues purveying and celebrating these genres all seem to work together, know and love each other thus making an incredible, niche music scene across the UK and stretching far beyond.
Take ArcTanGent festival for example, it has become the spiritual home of these genres. If you are part of this scene you are welcomed there with open arms, if you're not part of this scene you are welcomed there with open arms. You will inevitably become embroiled in some multi band/promoter/blogger/scenester party. Everybody knows each other, you will wind up knowing everyone too.
Take folks from outside the UK like Space Blood & Quadrupede. When they come over here for a tour it is treated like the return of some long lost relatives at Christmas time.
Take the fact that everybody involved on this scene knows who John Niblock is, they all love him yet they all know it is their duty to throw hateful jibes his way and graffiti toilet walls with incriminating facts about him.
This is a scene of music lovers so warm and inviting that to dip your toe is to practically cannonball straight into the deep end.
Take a look at all the bands and promoters we have met during our time running Yeah Buddy! If you're wanting to be a part of this scene, book a gig, tour or just get to know some cool people then this is the place for you.
