1. A lot of people see ATG as the pinnacle of the Math/Post/Experimental/Prog-Rock scene in the U.K. What does it mean for you to have reached this level?
I guess it means we did a decent job promoting ourselves over the past few years. I am astounded that we were able to make it this far in such a short amount of time. Definitely the pinnacle of anything we have done as a band.
2. Many see the above listed genres as niche, yet there is a huge scene across the U.K behind them. How far do you think this scene can go and do you see ATG as the spearhead for that progress
I see it as less of a niche but more as a necessary extension or opposition of popular music. There will always be music lovers and concert goers who want to listen to something with a bit more edge or technicality or just notes Whenever there is a popular genre, a contrary or progression always emerges in some way. Despite many of the bands at ATG falling under the "math" or "post" category there is quite a bit of variation within those somewhat arbitrary labels and a lot of room for tastemakers to like or dislike. This variation makes ATG much more than a festival for one niche or scene and allows it to just be a new rock music festival rather than a math-post-avant-tap-dottedquarterdelayguitar-fendertelewithcapo-fest. A lot of the artists represented at ATG are just making music that comes to them naturally which solidifies this type of music as more of a step in musical evolution and less of a one off fad or niche.
3. For you guys this is the blow off of a U.K tour, What are you hoping to achieve and what is next for you guys after ATG?
New projects with many different people. Hopefully a steady stream of US shows as well as planting the seeds for the next Floral release. Perhaps also some vinyl
4. You guys are still sitting pretty on 'The Second Floral E.P' which you released last November, when can we expect more Floral music?
Couldn't say for sure right now but it will happen in time. Like I said, many new projects in the works.
5. What bands/promoters/venues would you recommend working with on this scene?
John Niblock has been our Jesus to the God that is the UK math scene. He has done such a good job getting all these shows together with reliable promoters including backline gear and a place to crash. He told us that if we got the slot at ATG than he would book us a UK tour as well as drive us and now here we are lol.
Marty Toner from Alright the Captain has also been extremely welcoming and hospitable. Apparently he knows everybody. Cannot wait to hang with him at ATG and experience the vastness of his network of math dudes
Steward Ramsey and his wife Kerry from Bad Owl Presents put on a stellar show for us in Leeds and gave us an extremely comfortable sleeping situation as well as delectable vegan dinner and breakfast :3 Anyone trying to get a show in Leeds should look no further. Super friendly and professional people.
Jonathan Lindley and Iain Rutherford pretty much threw as a pub banger in Darwen at Sunbird Records. Rowdiest night of tour so far. Very new place they have (only 8 weeks old) but a banging club and concert venue.
