Bristol has been bracing itself for months for the biggest ArcTanGent ever. Take a fleeting glance across this years line up and you will know that this year is going to be an apocalyptic blitz of the finest established and independent bands on the prog/math/post/experimental-rock scenes. Here's the breakdown;
Who?
It's hard to look past the likes of Rolo Tomassi, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Deafheaven, 65 Days of Static and The Fall of Troy but being the diligent D.I.Y heralds that we are, we're gonna do our best to draw your attention to some of the up and comers on the line up...and boy is it rammed full of them, here are our picks;
Pocket Apocalypse
They're a firm part of the Yeah Buddy! family, PA are one of our favorite ever finds and they're having a standout year. They've released their debut album 'Under Our Sky', supported Arcane Roots and now the next massive step for them is making themselves known at their first major festival: FRIDAY, 13:20-13:50, PX3 Stage
Cleft
One of our top recommendations for this entire weekend. Cleft seem to manage to say more with their music than most bands can with words. Simply put they are excellent. Well worth getting in early on Thursday for especially because they are right between the excellent Alpha Male Tea Party and AK/DK on the opening day: Thursday, 15:50-16:30, Yohkai Stage
Vasa
Glasgow's Vasa are the definition of men on the scene. They are a vital part of the community that the likes of ArcTanGent does so well to cultivate. They recently released the below bit of wonderment for your delight and delectation: Saturday, 19:20-20:00, PX3 Stage
Alright, The Captain
If what is said above about Vasa strikes a cord with you then let that be the same for ATC. They are total gents, a band of astonishing talents and 3 men that put so much work into promoting this scene that they simply deserve your respect and attention: Saturday, 21:50-22:30, PX3 Stage
Vodun
They came to Maguires Pizza Bar late last year and they dumbfounded everybody in the room with their voodoo bodypaint, mystic clothing and flaming cymbals. They very recently released 'Minos Army' with this fantastic video, check it: Saturday, 16:00-16:35, PX3 Stage
What?
ArcTanGent has been the place to go to for fans of Math/Post/Experimental/Prog-rock fans and indeed fans of great music and a good time since 2009. Each year it gets bigger and better. This year though, it has become blatantly obvious to us here at Yeah Buddy! that being part of ATG is being part of something very special indeed.
Where?
10 miles south of beautiful Bristol and just a couple of hours away from the big smoke. Not that that affects us, we're travelling long distance for this bad boy purely off the back of its radiant allure.
Why?
Why go? There are thousands of reasons, here are a few;
A. 4 Stages
2. 70 Bands
D. A 3 d-day belter of a party
4. A burgeoning community for independent music lovers
6. Some of the best alternative musical acts you're likely to find all across one weekend
When?
This pissin' weekend: August 20th until the 22nd, Yes, it finishes on a Saturday night, when a festival should bloody finish, gives you that vital day of recuperation.
How?
The ArcTanGent team have been steadily building this festival into the behemoth it is today for the past 6 years. It is an award-winner, a widely revered and respected, independent festival and now a cultural pillar in the alternative music scene.
