- What're We Talking About!?
Bad Grammar are releasing their new single 'Clown' b/w ‘Who’s Yer Mate?’ on 23rd February (that's today idiots), through Flatpack Records. This is the first release following last years 25k view garnering 'Temper Temper'. They got handpicked by Andrew W.K to feature at Y Not Festival as well as having features on/in XFM, 6Music, Radio 1, NME, Clash and Artrocker (and of course Yeah Buddy!) last year so this is some wave they're riding.

- Summary 'Clown' is the story of a skank. I think anyway, BG have a knack for nailing certain types of people they don't like with their crisp, witty lyrics and scathing sarcasms. Taking several swipes at skewed hair & make up, the way Ben roars each line you would think that he gets a regular slut-slap from some broad. 'Clown' is ferocious and atrocious, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It is now 6 days since this video was declared Vevo ready, it has clocked up 15,745 views already- great job!!! - What Hooked Me? Well between the previously mentioned raging vocal(horn) and the plump beat that rumbles the track along nicely, I didn't really have much time to think what it was that I got snagged on before I was in a deep dance, shaking my knees like a wet dog in the winter. - Key Lyric It's gotta be between “You say your appetite is insatiable / Sweetheart, your make up is terrible” and "They smile, I frown you like a clown". I'm gonna go with the latter as it is a line expertly delivered by The Hyena Kill's Lorna in the video. Again, both are examples of BG's social awareness and vengeful wit that is amusing and easy to relate to. BG kinda channel Andy Falkous' madcap imagery in their lyrics. - Video This is a big part of the track and what has helped it get so many views. Nobody likes a boring video or a collection of images. Set in Bolton's Blue Roar Booze Emporium and following the narrative of mild sexual harassment, 'Clown' in film is humorous, on point and a good laugh. Beautiful shirts are adorned by Ben and Lucy as they mince along merrily for nigh on 3 minutes. Calories were burnt during the filming of 'Clown' for sure. If you like those moves then you really should catch these guys live (dates in Vital Info), they kick up dust like a furious colt. - Artwork It is a simple piece of work and a testament to how effective a solid scatty font can be. Their melting letter logo and chalkboard font for the track make it look cool and professional. If you're wondering why I'm jabbering on about fonts then go fuck yourself and don't come crying to me when no one wants to buy your tape cos all the text is in comic sans you knob. The pair also are looking pretty mischievous and pretty on the cover, I like their friendly faces. - Line From The Band "We’re so happy with the single, both tracks have been in our live set for a little while so it feels good to be unleashing them as studio recordings. We managed to bash them out in a day last year with Ryan Pinson, who’s a great Wolverhampton based producer with a keen ear for the little details, who really helped us bring out our melodic side more as well developing the brashness of our simplistic set up. They’re the best representation of where our sound is at the moment, and where it’s going; with a focus on groove and delivering big hooks." - Vital Info ‘Clown’ b/w ‘Who’s Yer Mate?’ is out 23rd February, via Flatpack Records |
