I mean you wanna talk about DIY music, booking your own tours, promoting and releasing your own music, well Massa Confusa are the shining example of how to do all that and more.
With this compilation, Massa Confusa have highlighted 28 (TWENTY EIGHT) of their favourite bands that they have played with, promoted or discovered along their musical journey.

What Hooked Me?
I have decided to highlight 5 particular tracks that I have really enjoyed whilst listening to this bumper playlist
Massa Confusa- Dark World
The brooding and edgy opener of the whole compilation from the curators themselves sets the tone for what is to come. The track is smartly produced and drags you into a moody, atmospheric microcosm. All of a sudden you feel that you have been dragged into the Dark World of reluctant thoughts and feelings along with the band
Zeerox- Xerox
Easing off with a scratching, staggered guitar and flowing bass, ‘Xerox’ builds into an expansive and catchy piece as the vocals pre-empt the chorus with the true hook of “We are a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy yeah!”. The guitars are shrill, the drums do not over-crowd, they complement, the bass drives everything along nicely and the vocals add the flavour. A well-oiled, finely written song that is endlessly re-listenable
Skull Puppies- Weary Adventures
It’s not often that I would take a song, essentially about ‘The Legend of Zelda’, or any game for that matter so seriously. Weary Adventures is such a delightful little jaunt though that I can’t help myself but give this song the credit it deserves. With stylings of Titus Andronicus and Modern Baseball, the whole ‘Zelda’ guise is simply a metaphor for a deeper meaning and you know what, I’ve got a lot of time for that
Apache Viking- Shake
What a stupidly catchy, awesome little song. I don’t even wanna take away from the punchiness of this track by dragging out an explanation of it. Just go listen to it. The American/English group have nailed it here. That line of ‘YOU’RE SO SHOOOR, YOU’RE SO COOL” leading into the falsetto chorus: uuuuuuuuuugh.
Kapil - Brazen
Talk about setting the mood. That vibrating, deep guitar riff sets the tone for an almost theatrical, 4-minute story. The intro reminds almost of Labrynth in the cinematic tones that preside over the track. Everything about this professional and all business. I just love it, listen!
Artwork
Love it. It’s an open stylised cartoon of an open gateway which very much represents what you enter when you hit play on this compilation, another world that you can escape to for an hour or so per listen.
Look at that cool pink monkey too, what a time he is having.
Feedback
Let’s have a lot more of this, this is brilliant. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening through this compilation, I was made up to see a selection of familiar there and was even happier in discovering a bunch of ace new bands through the comp.
Hoping Compilation 3 comes soon I would like to see the lads continue to experiment and push the boundaries of genre with what they add to their compilations (not than a song that lasts for less than 2 minutes titled ‘Loyd’s Gross, Man’ isn’t experimental). I very much look forward to hearing what’s next
Summary
Line From The Promoter
Massa Confusa Presents started when we wanted to play regular shows with bands we liked in spaces we liked. We decided to book monthly gigs and began asking bands to play, with just one catch – we play too. After a run of shows at The Dog and Parrot, Nerd Hutch, Empty Shop and The Central; we are continuing to seek more venues to support the local music scene. – Ally Morton, Massa Confusa
