What Are We Talking About?
Lo-fi 2-track demo from Liverpool newbies Queen Zee and The Sasstones, released via Bitchicism Records. It's punk in its ethic and is an exploration of jaunty, purposefully mis-balanced pop.
If you like your music with open-hearted honesty and cultrually sensitive subject matter played with a rebellious spirit then you've found one of your new favourite bands here.
Summary
First and foremost I would like to highlight that this review was really easy to write. The music is so enjoyable and it is so lyrically engaged that writing about it came without any kind of mental force.
As a demo this is pretty exciting stuff, can't help but itch with anticipation on what the band will produce in the coming months.
What Hooked Me?
The nature of this band from top to bottom is DIY. DIY in their recording, DIY in the demo tapes that they handmade, DIY in their self-promotion and all this seems to resonate with the music which is raw, ambling and gritty. It is hard to not be hooked by the handmade aspect of all this. It gives the tracks a very intimate feel.
Key Lyric
'Ive gotta fit 'til I'm sick and the one thing I can't do is choke on your dick'- This line amongst others from the track 'Medicine' is extremely brave. I am so glad that it is part of the song as many wouldn't dare to be so honest. The subject that this track approaches is certainly a delicate issue and QZatS tackle it with brutal honesty and a tongue-in-cheek humor.
The whole set of lyrics from 'Medicine' gives me the idea that QZatS are like that loose cannon at the party and people do not know what is gonna come out of their mouth next. Isn't it great to be able to make narrow-minded people feel so uncomfortable- I have a feeling that 'Medicine' may just unsettle some and so it should. An issue such as this being addressed so openly deserves commendation on its own, it being packaged so acutely into a neat little song is something extra impressive.
Artwork
A provocative and suggestive image that certainly matches the provocative lyrics and content. There is a definitive synergy between sound and vision here which is spot on
Feedback
I'd really love to see the man behind this project Zach Jones really keep focus on this one. He is a smart, young man that is wildly talented and has a voice that can become really important. His strong opinions can be converted into powerful musical messages as evidenced in this demo. He simply just needs to keep focus on this project having had several different guises in the past.
I'm really looking forward to hearing what comes next and I don't think it needs to be too polished production-wise. The raw sound really work well with the songs here so that should remain a focus for future endeavors.
Line From The Band
Zach Jones had this to say on the release; "The demo is a one off precursor to 'whet the appetite' before our E.P release in May this year. The band really started as a joke, and a way to use demos I had no intention of ever putting out. I genuinely didn't think anyone would be interested. But after the positive reaction we've had...a record deal offer... I've put a band together, that is in the studio right now. literally today. We'll be announcing some big things in April... and you'll get to see us live in the UK this May and June touring with a certain band from London/France"

Krystian Hudson is one half of YB!HQ. He is co-founder of Yeah Buddy! and the proud owner of a Nescafe Dolce Gusto coffee machine that (potentially) cost over £50.
Front man Salt the Snail (Keep your eyes peeled). Krystian writes from time to time but spends most of his time helping to make Yeah Buddy! awesome.
He is a support worker by trade but moonlights in promoting unsigned bands via Yeah Buddy! online, live and co-promoting Liverpool Calling festival.
