- What Are We Talking About?
Liverpudlian solo stalwart Michael Bennett's latest single release which has been getting well due attention within its reach including a good few plays at Anfield. I actually heard it myself last Thursday at half-time against Besiktas, lo and behold we went on to win the damn game. Fair play Mikey boy, nice one.

It is an unabashed, thick slice of Northern Indie that would prick the ears of many a Britpop fan. By no means do I believe that to be an out of date genre either, many a year has passed since the heady days of Oasis, Cast, Kula Shaker and co, music moves in circular waves, expect such a solid style to spring up again as soon as it finds a figurehead (a la The Black Keys' revival of bluesy rock).
- What Hooked Me?
'Skies Above Us' boasts a chorus that threatens to burst into the realms of anthemia, definitely a catch when you find something that is so enjoyable to sing along to. I also love the almost Sitar like bendy riff that resonates through the track, it is not the type of hook that is easy to come by, very well worked, tinkered and styled to hold the track together like a shiny pop-rivet.
- Key Lyric
I really do enjoy singing "he was disguised as a pervert" instead of "he's in the skies above us" but I don't think Michael would want it credited as the key lyric for that reason (although, he may, he's a pretty funny guy). It has to be "He used to tell me stories of how he's coming back and haunting you/ but all the tales you told me, weren't enough to set you free." It's almost cryptic which gives the enigmatic subject of the song an air of malevolence. Almost makes you feel like you don't wanna find out who it is about because the mystery is so appealing
- Artwork
It is simple yet effective as we see a sun-glared image of Michael from behind as he looks at what I can only assume to be the sky. It's to the point, what more do you want.
- Line From The Man
It's the first release from a forthcoming EP due for release this year, the record is mixed and produced by Neil Owen (his musical guise is AKA47)
- Vital Info
Well the E.P release is pulling Michael's focus for now and rightly so. He does have a huge slot at the Bombed Out Church stage for YB! partner festival Liverpool Calling. The line up is huge and can be found here.
