The Jackobins have really been finding a sturdy footing amongst Liverpool’s indie-pop scene, a scene that has proved itself to be very fruitful over the years.
The new single ‘The Otherside’, which will soon be released by the group, showcases the many strings to the Jackobins’ bow. A major highlight is the well-harnessed vocals that conduct the simmering guitars and mounting drums throughout the track which eventually leads to a rising and falling ending.
Fans of sunshine guitar-pop will be very welcoming of this shimmery, uplifting tune and it is one that I can definitely envisage being broadcast to a wide audience such is its broad appeal.
This is a song that I would rather just sit and enjoy than cast a critical eye over but if I was to give some constructive feedback it would simply be that the song lasts slightly longer that what is necessary. Around the 3 minute 30 mark, the song has achieved everything it needs to and could finish without contention. At 5:07 it may run slightly longer than what is required to keep what is becoming an ever impatient, over-fed audiences’ attention.
Long or short however this is a song that I have enjoyed listening to over and over and one that is bound to bag praise as well as augment The Jackobins’ ever growing audience even more.
